Channel 4 Safety Settings (Formerly All 4)

 

Channel 4 is the umbrella platform for all of the various channels and on-demand content broadcast by Channel 4. The safety settings and parental controls operate by PIN-restricting content.

 

Restrictions Available

Parental controls allow you to restrict content with two main options:

• All rated content (16+ years of age only): This requires a PIN for any content rated 16 or above.
• 18+ rated content only: This requires a PIN specifically for content rated 18 or above.

The age ratings are set by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification).

 

Setting up Parental Controls

Here’s how to set up parental controls on Channel 4:

1. Open Channel 4 Website: Go to www.channel4.com
2. Sign In: Select “Sign in to My4” in the menu.
3. Register (if needed): If you don’t already have an account, select “Register” and follow the on-screen instructions using your email address and creating a password.
4. Sign In to Account: Once registered, enter your Email address and Password to sign in to your account.
5. Access Account Settings: Once signed in, click on “My4” at the top of the Channel 4 homepage, and then select “Account Settings” from the drop-down menu.
6. Go to Parental Controls: In the “Account Overview” section, click on “Parental Controls” from the side menu.
7. Manage Parental Controls: Click the “Edit” button under the “Manage parental controls” header.
8. Select Restriction Level: Choose your desired restriction level:
   • All rated content (16+): You will need to enter the PIN if you want to watch content meant for ages 16+.
   • 18+ rated content: You will need to enter the PIN if you want to watch content meant for ages 18+.
9. Enter and Confirm PIN: You will need to enter a 4-digit PIN.
10. Confirm Terms and Conditions: Tick the option to confirm you have read the Terms and Conditions (and that you are 18 years of age or older).
11. Enable PIN Access: This will enable the 4-digit PIN. The PIN will now be required to view any content rated above the restrictions selected.

 

Important Notes

• Your PIN will be required to view rated content each time you log on to Channel4.com, but typically only once per session. You’ll enter your PIN for each program you want to view, but you can usually watch as many episodes of that program as you like without being prompted for your PIN again until you close your browser or end your session.
• It’s crucial to keep your PIN secure. If you share it or allow others to access it, all content on Channel4.com, including 18-rated content, will be accessible.
