JusTalk Kids is a messaging, voice and video calling app for children to connect with family and friends. It also offers creative sharing and activities during calls. Children may enjoy keeping in touch and playing together, while parents want to understand who can contact them. This guide explains JusTalk Kids safety settings, paid parent controls and practical privacy checks.
For parents, set up the account together and test the protections before regular use. However, an approved contact list, encryption or child focused branding cannot guarantee safe behaviour. The instructions below explain what each control does and where its protection ends.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning
JusTalk Kids is designed for children, with parental consent and supervision required by its Terms of Service. The Apple App Store listing shows 4+. This is a content classification, rather than permission for a four year old to communicate independently.
For parents, decide whether the child can recognise an uncomfortable interaction and ask for help. An approved contact can still bully, pressure or mislead them. Therefore, supervise early use and review groups together.
The JusTalk Kids Privacy Policy describes parental consent and child account information. However, the published setup uses a calculation question and optional account linking. A maths answer does not prove adulthood, identity or suitability. The reviewed setup instructions do not document a biometric or identity document check. Follow genuine consent prompts yourself and never send identity documents through a chat.
JusTalk Kids Parental Controls and Restrictions
Start with the child’s JusTalk Kids account and your own adult account. Basic calling and messaging are free. However, remote parent linking, friend approval, sensitive content warnings and recovery phone features require the documented eligible membership. Check your store’s current price, renewal terms and device support before buying.
The official pages sometimes use different labels and disagree about availability. Consequently, test every control on the actual devices. If an option is absent, consult support rather than assuming it operates silently.
Create the child’s account with an adult present
First, install the genuine app from the device’s app store. Choose a nickname and ID that reveal neither the child’s full name nor school.
- Open JusTalk Kids and select Sign Up.
- Enter a suitable name, review the proposed ID, then select Continue. The ID cannot be changed later.
- Set a unique password and keep it in an adult controlled password manager.
- Review the membership offer. Select Skip if you are not purchasing it.
- Select Continue, complete the parent calculation yourself, then review the parent account and phone prompts.
- Complete any remaining consent and account details accurately, then choose the icon and theme.
Why it matters: Optional setup screens do not establish that remote supervision is active. Next, set the passcode and check account linking before adding friends. Official instructions
JusTalk Kids parental controls: set the Parent Passcode
A four digit Parent Passcode protects access to the app’s parental gate. Use it instead of relying on a calculation a child could answer.
- Open the child’s app and select the avatar, then Settings.
- Select Parents Only and follow the prompts to create a four digit passcode.
- Alternatively, when a calculation appears, select Set Parental Passcode below it.
- Keep the code private and test whether adding a friend requires it.
Why it matters: This is separate from the account password and device lock. However, reinstalling an unlinked app can reset settings, so also protect installation and account access. Official instructions
Link the parent and child accounts
For remote controls, the official guidance requires Premium Family on the adult account or Kids Premium for the child. The dedicated JusTalk Family app provides the parent dashboard.
- On the child’s device, open the Parent Account linking page from the setup prompt and display its QR code.
- On your device, install JusTalk Family and sign in or create your adult account.
- Select Add Kids and scan the child’s parent linking QR code. Some versions use +, then Scan.
- If using the ordinary JusTalk app instead, sign in with the eligible membership and select +, then Scan.
- Confirm the correct child appears, then test a friend approval request.
Why it matters: Scanning an ordinary friend QR code is not parent linking. The general JusTalk app does not provide every dedicated Family dashboard feature. Official instructions
Approve JusTalk Kids friends and protect the child’s ID
Friend connections require mutual addition. With eligible paid parent linking, parents also receive approval requests. However, a familiar display name does not establish who controls the account.
- Ask the other child’s parent to confirm the correct ID independently.
- On the child’s device, select Add Friends, enter that ID and select Add. Alternatively, select Scan QR Code for a trusted person beside you.
- Have the other person complete the corresponding addition.
- On your linked parent device, open JusTalk, then Messages, and review the pending request.
- Choose Approve only after confirming the person, or select Deny.
Why it matters: Both linked parents must approve when both children use this arrangement. Keep IDs and QR codes out of public posts and check the actual friend list together. Official instructions
Check Block strangers in versions that offer it
Older Android support documents a Block strangers switch. Its stated exception includes phone contacts as well as app friends.
- Select the profile picture, then Settings and Privacy.
- If available, enable Block strangers.
- Review the device’s phone contacts, especially on a shared tablet or phone.
- Test with a known adult account outside the child’s approved list.
Why it matters: The current app may use different privacy labels or rely on its friend model. This switch does not replace paid parental approval or review of contacts. Official instructions
Enable Sensitive Content Warning on supported iOS accounts
The specific official instructions label this control iOS only. They require eligible membership and a linked parent account.
- Open the child’s JusTalk Kids app and select the avatar.
- Select the Settings gear, then Privacy & Security.
- Enable Sensitive Content Warning.
- Check the parent device for available notifications and review options.
Why it matters: Detection can miss material or flag harmless content. It does not establish that a parent can read every chat, nor does it provide blanket protection across Android. Official instructions
JusTalk Kids Safety Settings and Why They Matter
Next, review JusTalk Kids safety settings for unwanted contact, account recovery and privacy. Explain the actions to your child before a problem occurs. Within JusTalk Kids safety settings, keep blocking, reporting and deleting separate because their effects differ.
JusTalk Kids safety settings for reporting harmful contact
Reporting sends a concern to the platform. Where safe, report before blocking because JusTalk states that blocking deletes the associated chat history.
- Select the user’s avatar, then the three dots menu.
- Select Manage friendship, then Report.
- Choose the relevant reason and describe what happened.
- Select appropriate Chat history or Images evidence, review the notice, then select Submit.
Why it matters: A report is not an emergency response. For sexual images involving a child, do not download, copy or forward the images. Record account details and seek safeguarding advice. Official instructions
Block, remove and review blocked contacts
Blocking stops contact from that account. Removing a friend changes the contact list, while unblocking can allow a new connection.
- Press and hold the friend’s avatar, then select Profile.
- Open the three dots menu, then Manage Friendship.
- Select Block for unwanted contact, or Remove Friend when removing a connection.
- To review blocked accounts, open Settings, Privacy & Security, then Block List.
- Use Unblock only after an adult review. Reconnection requires a new friend request.
Why it matters: Blocking permanently deletes that chat history. Unblocking cannot restore it, and another account or app can still be used for contact. Official instructions
Change the JusTalk Kids account password
Use a different password from other family accounts. Also secure the parent’s phone and recovery messages.
- Select the avatar, then Settings and Account.
- Select Change Password.
- Enter the current password, enter a new unique password and confirm it.
Why it matters: The reviewed instructions do not establish a separate multifactor authentication or login alerts menu. Therefore, support JusTalk Kids safety settings by protecting the device and recovery routes. Official instructions
JusTalk Kids safety settings for recovery phone numbers
This paid feature links the parent’s phone number for account recovery. It requires membership and parent linking.
- Select the child’s avatar, then the Settings gear.
- Open Account, then Parent Phone Number.
- Enter the adult’s number and complete the verification prompts.
Why it matters: Recovery access can undo protective choices. Never share verification codes or let another child control that phone number. Official instructions
Recover a forgotten Parent Passcode
When a parent account is linked, use its QR based recovery rather than deleting the app.
- Select Add Friend, then Continue with Passcode.
- Select Forgot Password, then Continue with Parent Account.
- Scan the recovery QR code using the parent’s linked device and follow the prompts.
Why it matters: For an unlinked account, official guidance instead describes reinstalling, which resets settings and clears chat records. Seek support before doing this if records are needed. Official instructions
Control location sharing with JusTalk Kids privacy settings
Parent location monitoring and sharing a location with a chat are different functions. Official pages describe both, so do not assume only parents can receive every location share.
- Open the compass icon and select Live Location.
- Review recipients without creating a new share.
- Select anyone currently receiving the location, then Stop Sharing Location and Stop sharing.
- Also review JusTalk Kids location access in the device’s app permissions. Deny it when location features are unnecessary.
Why it matters: The documented sharing route uses + to choose friends. Check that route with your child. Location can reveal a home, school or routine and may be inaccurate. Official instructions
JusTalk Kids privacy settings for microphone, camera and photos
Grant only the access needed for the agreed activity. A camera permission supports calls, while photo access can expose other images on a shared device.
- Select the profile picture, then the Settings gear and Notification to open the documented device permissions shortcut.
- Review Microphone, Camera and Photo permissions. Restrict unused access using the device’s available choices.
- Return to JusTalk Kids Settings, then Privacy & Security, and check its Microphone and Camera switches.
- Test the intended call or sharing feature after changing access.
Why it matters: Device names vary. Removing photo access does not stop someone photographing the screen, and blocking camera access does not erase previously shared media. Official instructions
Review Read Receipts in JusTalk Kids privacy settings
Read receipts show when a message has been viewed. However, they can create pressure to answer immediately.
- Open Settings, then Privacy & Security.
- Turn Read Receipts off if they create pressure.
Why it matters: This removes reciprocal receipt visibility. The documented feature does not apply to group chats, and switching it off does not hide all activity. Official instructions
Manage notifications with JusTalk Kids safety settings
Muting reduces interruptions without blocking the person. Explain that it does not make an upsetting conversation safe.
- Select the friend’s avatar, then the three dots menu.
- Select Mute notification.
- To restore alerts later, use the same menu and select Enable notification.
Why it matters: Messages can still arrive. Use blocking and reporting for harmful contact rather than treating mute as a contact restriction. Official instructions
Use JusTalk Kids safety settings to leave unsuitable groups
Review all group members with your child. A group can expose them to people beyond the original friend they trusted.
- Open JusTalk Kids and press and hold the relevant group.
- Select Leave Group, then select Leave Group again to confirm.
- If your child is the administrator, assign a suitable replacement first. Otherwise, the app may choose a new administrator.
Why it matters: Leaving does not remove messages or screenshots held by other participants. Report serious conduct first where safe. Official instructions
Add device limits to JusTalk Kids parental controls
JusTalk’s headphone usage controls are not a general app screen time limit. For a supervised Android device, use its family controls.
- Open the parent’s Family Link app and select the child.
- Select Screen time, then Time limits and App limits.
- Choose JusTalk Kids, set its time allowance and save the change.
- Test what happens when the allowance ends and review any Unlimited time exception.
Why it matters: This depends on compatible supervised devices. It does not control another device or account. For Apple devices, use the current Screen Time controls and test exceptions. Official instructions
How to Use JusTalk Kids Safely
For parents, combine JusTalk Kids safety settings with a small contact list and calls in a shared room. Ask your child to tell you about invitations, uncomfortable jokes or requests for secrecy. Explain that they can end a call without being rude.
For example, agree that bedrooms, school details, passwords and private family photographs stay off calls and chats. Video effects can disguise a background, but they do not guarantee privacy. Check both camera views if dual camera features appear.
The app supports groups, recordings and media sharing. Consequently, explain that another person can save or share content outside the app. Screen sharing can expose notifications, other conversations and passwords. The documented screen sharing controls allow Android users to initiate sharing while iOS users can view it.
Similarly, check Talkie voice playback before using it in a public place. Agree who can send voice messages and when headphones or playback should be off. Review Moments, stickers, games and KidsTube with your child rather than assuming every feature suits them.
No separate AI companion restriction was established in the reviewed settings. If an AI or automated feature appears, inspect its data notice before enabling it. Finally, keep the app and device updated and repeat contact and permission checks after significant changes.
Essential Safety Advice and Current Concerns
An approved account can still belong to an impersonator or a person behaving abusively. Requests for sexual content, secrecy, money or moving to another app need adult attention. However, respond calmly and make clear that asking for help will not lead to blame.
If bullying or grooming occurs, stop the interaction and report the account. Preserve appropriate account details and text where safe. Do not circulate sexual images involving a child. For Irish support routes, use Useful Links and Supports. In immediate danger, call 112 or 999.
Paid features can create spending pressure. Review the exact plan and billing account together. An advertisement free service can still sell subscriptions or extra features, and uninstalling the app does not end those payments.
JusTalk Kids safety settings for subscription renewal
Cancel through the store account that paid for the membership. Check the confirmation and expiry date rather than relying on account deletion.
- For Apple billing, open Settings, select your name, then Subscriptions.
- Select the JusTalk subscription and choose Cancel Subscription. If an expiry message appears without a cancellation button, check whether it is already cancelled.
- For Google Play billing, open Google Play using the paying account.
- Select the profile, then Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, the membership and Cancel subscription.
- Complete the confirmation prompts and retain the receipt. For another billing provider, use that provider’s subscription controls.
Why it matters: Cancellation stops future renewal under the store’s terms. It does not automatically refund earlier payments. See Apple cancellation and Google Play cancellation.
JusTalk Kids privacy settings for data and account deletion
Parents can request access, correction or deletion through official support. Account deletion is permanent and separate from cancelling billing.
- For a privacy request, contact kids@justalk.com through the official support channel and explain the request.
- Before deletion, save only appropriate information you need and cancel any paid renewal separately.
- Select the child’s avatar, then Settings and Account.
- Select Delete my account and read the confirmation before completing it.
Why it matters: The provider says friends, memories and call logs cannot be restored and the same ID cannot be reused. Deleting your account cannot erase copies held by other people. Official instructions
Platform Support and Regional Differences
JusTalk Kids safety settings vary by iOS, Android, membership and app version. For example, the detailed sensitive content help page specifies iOS, while broader membership marketing lists it more generally. Therefore, verify availability in your child’s actual app before relying on it.
The provider’s current support notice says Platinum Family is only valid for US users because of headphone delivery restrictions. Its device controls concern TalkiePods, including daily usage and volume. Do not assume these paid hardware controls are available in Ireland or limit ordinary phone use.
Use the JusTalk Kids Help Center for account and device guidance. To ask an app question, select the avatar, Settings, Help & Feedback, then Feedback. Include a reply email, but never send a password or unnecessary child information.
A company’s privacy or compliance statement is not an independent regulatory finding. This guide does not certify legal compliance in Ireland, the UK, the EU or the USA. For a child privacy concern, seek advice from the appropriate data protection authority rather than assuming one age check determines compliance everywhere.
The provider says delivered messages leave its transmission servers and undelivered messages expire within 15 days. However, device copies, recordings and separate cloud features can remain. Ask support about storage, overseas processing and deletion for the features your family uses.
Safety Checklist
After adjusting JusTalk Kids safety settings, complete these checks together and repeat them when contacts or devices change.
- Use an adult supervised account with a private nickname and protected credentials.
- Set and test the Parent Passcode.
- Confirm the membership and parent link if using remote controls.
- Test friend approval and review every contact and group.
- Enable supported sensitive content protection and understand its limits.
- Review camera, microphone, photos, location and read receipts.
- Test time limits and agree rules for recordings, sharing and voice playback.
- Know how to report before blocking and how to cancel renewal.
- Make sure your child knows which trusted adult will help.
JusTalk Kids Safety Settings Questions
Are all parental controls free?
No. Basic communication is free, while several linked parent controls require an eligible subscription. However, payment alone does not establish that JusTalk Kids safety settings are configured.
Can parents read every private conversation?
The reviewed help describes friend approval and sensitive content review. It does not establish unrestricted remote access to every message or an email chat summary feature. Therefore, review the actual dashboard and talk with your child.
Is location visible only to parents?
Official pages describe parent monitoring and a separate friend sharing route. Consequently, check recipients and device permission rather than relying on a general marketing statement.
Does blocking preserve the conversation?
No. JusTalk states that blocking permanently deletes that chat history. Report first where safe and seek safeguarding advice before handling sexual images involving children.
