FamiSafe Parental Controls and Safety Guide

FamiSafe official logo

FamiSafe parental controls help parents manage device time, filter websites and review supported activity. For example, families use its app rules, location tools and alerts to discuss digital habits and possible concerns. The parent uses FamiSafe, while the child device normally uses Fammy. This guide explains setup, sensitive monitoring choices and the differences between phones, computers and tablets. However, paid monitoring cannot guarantee safety or replace regular conversations.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning

FamiSafe is for authorised family supervision. An app store rating describes the software, rather than approving every app your child uses. Therefore, check each service’s age rules and explain the monitoring in advance. Screenshots, audio, messages, images and location reveal private information about children and other people. Use the least intrusive features that meet a clear need and keep the parent account private.

FamiSafe Setup and Restrictions

Set Up the FamiSafe Parent Account

The parent app configures rules and receives reports. The child app provides the device connection.

  • Install FamiSafe on your own phone using the official store or FamiSafe download page.
  • Create a Wondershare ID or use one of the supported sign in methods. Continue as a parent.
  • Open the child connection screen and keep its pairing code or QR code ready.
  • Install Fammy on the child phone and enter the pairing code, or scan the parent QR code to follow the official installation route.
  • Complete the child’s nickname and age, grant the permissions you have chosen and finish the setup wizard.

Why it matters: A parent app without a paired child app cannot enforce rules. In addition, guest or demo information is not your child’s activity. Choose a private parent email and a unique password.

Grant Android Permissions

Permissions support different controls. Their wording varies between Android manufacturers.

  • Open Fammy on the child device and follow the permission wizard.
  • Enable Accessibility and the requested display access for app restrictions.
  • Enable App Supervision for usage reports and Notification Access for supported notification monitoring.
  • Review Device Administrator Permission for remote controls and removal protection.
  • Enable location access if you want maps and geofences. Finish the wizard and check a recent activity entry in the parent app.

Why it matters: These are powerful permissions. Therefore, agree what they are for and review them after updates. Do not disable unrelated device security or assume every feature is active merely because pairing succeeded.

Set Up the Child’s iPhone or iPad

Some iPhone controls require an installation profile or computer connection. Permission alone does not create Android equivalent coverage.

  • Install Fammy, pair it with the parent code and complete the child details.
  • Follow Fammy’s profile installation tutorial for the controls you intend to use. Review the management notice before accepting.
  • In Apple Settings, find Fammy under Apps or the app list and review location and notifications.
  • Grant photo, microphone or motion access only for the corresponding features you choose.
  • If your version requests Safari protection, follow its Content Blockers setup in Safari settings.
  • For advanced app rules or message access, use the official FamiSafe Connect instructions presented by the app on your computer.

Why it matters: Older help describes different Safari and Settings layouts. Moreover, management profiles can conflict with school or workplace management. Ask support to confirm the correct method for your iOS version rather than removing another organisation’s profile.

Install FamiSafe on Windows or Mac

Desktop protection uses a child computer installation, managed from the parent app.

  • On Windows, download Fammy for PC from the official download page and run its installer.
  • Enter the parent app’s pairing code, then complete the child name, age and avatar.
  • On Mac, run the official installation package and follow the installation prompts.
  • Sign in to the parent account, or choose Pair with Code, and complete the child nickname and age.
  • Return to the parent app and check that the intended computer appears before setting its rules.

Why it matters: A shared computer can expose another person’s activity. Therefore, check who uses it and use appropriate separate computer accounts. Phone features such as mobile audio should not be assumed available on a computer. The current FAQ says multiple Windows user accounts and multiple monitor setups are unsupported, so confirm suitability for a shared computer first.

Install FamiSafe on Chromebook

Chromebook setup needs both a Chrome extension and the child Android app.

  • Open the official FamiSafe extension listing in Chrome Web Store and choose Add to Chrome.
  • Choose Connect Now when prompted. Install Fammy through the Google Play page that opens.
  • Open Fammy and sign in or enter the parent pairing code. Complete the required Android permissions.
  • Return to the extension and check for This Chromebook is now protected!.
  • Review the available rules for this Chromebook rather than copying a phone profile without checking it.

Why it matters: The official guide excludes some phone features, including driving reports and photo detection, from Chromebook. In addition, school policies or missing Google Play support may prevent setup.

Install FamiSafe on Kindle Fire

The Fire edition has its own setup and a narrower feature set.

  • Install FamiSafe from Amazon Appstore on the child tablet.
  • Sign in to your parent account, choose Kid and enter the child’s nickname and age.
  • Complete Accessibility, display over other apps, App Supervision and Notification Access prompts.
  • Review Device Administrator Permission and the requested contact and location permissions.
  • Confirm the tablet appears in the parent app and test its time and website rules.

Why it matters: Fire models and profiles can behave differently. Therefore, verify the available permissions before purchase. The presence of a Fire app does not establish that all Android phone monitoring works there.

FamiSafe Safety Settings and Why They Matter

FamiSafe Android Screen Time and Downtime

A daily allowance controls duration, while Downtime controls the hours when apps are available.

  • Select the child and open Screentime or Screen Time.
  • Open Screen Time Limit, enable it and set the allowance for restricted apps.
  • Open Downtime and create the periods when all apps or specific apps should be unavailable.
  • Review any allowed apps and test a short limit together.

Why it matters: The Android guide says the allowance returns at 7 am rather than midnight. However, verify the actual reset and enforcement on your version. An allowed or offline app may behave differently from a restricted one. Allowed Apps still count towards the overall limit according to the FAQ. Each device has a separate allowance, rather than one shared family total.

FamiSafe iPhone App Limits

The iPhone guide describes both app allowances and a device countdown, with profile requirements.

  • Open Set Rules in the parent app and choose App Limit.
  • Select an individual app or category and set its allowance.
  • On the child device, complete Fammy’s Installing the iOS profile tutorial if required.
  • For the device countdown, open Screen Time Limit, enable it and set the duration.
  • Review the child’s app access when the limit expires and confirm essential tools remain available.

Why it matters: Installing the profile is part of enforcement. In contrast, a report alone does not block use. The provider’s instructions differ between versions, so confirm the options actually shown.

FamiSafe App Rules

App Rules manages access to individual apps. Desktop versions also describe app allowances and schedules.

  • Open Features and App Rules for the selected child.
  • On Android, find an installed app and turn on its block switch to restrict it.
  • On supported iPhone setups, select the app to block and complete the requested computer pairing if this has not already been done.
  • On Windows or Mac, select the app and choose Block. Check Blocked to review the list.
  • For a desktop allowance, select the app and choose Limit, then enable App Time Limit. Use App Downtime for its schedule.

Why it matters: App blocking and app installation approval are different controls. Moreover, blocking an app does not restrict its website automatically. Recheck both access routes.

FamiSafe Computer Time Limits

Computer time rules are separate from the allowances for individual desktop apps.

  • Select the computer and open Screentime from Dashboard or Features.
  • Open Screen Time Limit and enable Enable Screen Time Limit.
  • Set the computer’s allowance.
  • Open Downtime, choose Add Downtime, name the schedule and set its blocked periods.

Why it matters: A computer wide block can interrupt schoolwork. Therefore, agree how your child can request access and test that work is saved before a limit takes effect.

FamiSafe Fire and Chromebook Time Rules

These editions use a Screen Time screen that also contains app access and schedule options.

  • Open Features, then Screen Time for the selected tablet or Chromebook.
  • Use the plus or minus beside remaining time for a temporary allowance adjustment.
  • Select the app icon to allow, block or open its advanced rules. On Chromebook, open App Limit for app duration or restriction schedules.
  • Open Smart Schedule and choose Set Smart Schedule. Name the rule and enable Set a time period, then set start, end and days.
  • On Chromebook, use Set a location only if a location triggered rule is needed and supported.
  • Open Allowed Apps and deliberately select the apps that should remain available.

Why it matters: Allowances and exceptions can overlap. In addition, location triggered rules depend on permission and location accuracy. Do not rely on them as the only school or bedtime control.

FamiSafe Website Filtering

Categories set broad rules. Exceptions decide how particular addresses behave.

  • Open Features and Web Filter.
  • Under Categories, enable the categories you want to block.
  • Under Exceptions, choose Add Exception or Add an Exception.
  • Enter the website address and select Allow or Block, then Save where shown.
  • Test a harmless permitted website and one exception in the browser the child uses.

Why it matters: A website exception can override a category. However, filters do not make every page or private conversation safe. Review browser compatibility and new apps after updates.

FamiSafe Safe Search and Browser History

Search filtering and browsing reports are different functions.

  • Open Features, then Safe Search, and turn on Enable Safe Search.
  • Where offered, review search history and use its gear or lock control to manage a word.
  • Open Settings within Safe Search to review suspicious word categories and add relevant terms. Chromebook also exposes Exceptions and Add an Exception.
  • For visited pages, open Features, Browser History, choose a date and review the addresses.
  • Use the lock beside an address to add an allow or block exception.

Why it matters: The iPhone guide identifies Google and Bing filtering. In contrast, this is not a promise to filter every search engine or AI answer. Browsing history does not reveal every private interaction.

FamiSafe Social App Detection

The current Social Media Safety page describes broader detection than older Explicit Content Detection instructions.

  • Open Social Media Safety, then Social App Detection in the current parent app.
  • Complete the Android or iPhone connection and permission prompts for the supported services you choose.
  • Review available alerts, context and risk trends. Configure built in categories or custom keywords where the setup provides them.
  • If your version instead shows Explicit Content Detection, open it from Features, select Connecting and enable the supported apps.
  • Use Alerts to review detections and the feature’s suspicious words settings to manage relevant terms.

Why it matters: The current page describes more than 30 Android services and selected iPhone scenarios. Older help still lists discontinued services. Therefore, confirm the actual supported app and content type rather than promising universal access. AI emotion or slang interpretations are uncertain signals, not diagnoses. The current FAQ gives a shorter Android app list than the marketing page, and does not promise deleted message recovery or complete iPhone chats.

FamiSafe YouTube Controls

The user guide describes video and channel blocking, while the current FAQ says individual YouTube content blocking is unsupported. Confirm the current capability before relying on it.

  • For Android, open YouTube App Control from its Details card.
  • Review the available watch history. If a video or channel block control appears, ask support to confirm that it currently enforces the intended restriction.
  • Open Alerts and Setting to manage suspicious word categories, add terms and review the block list.
  • On Chromebook, open Features, YouTube App Control and History. Review history and any displayed lock control, while retaining the FAQ limitation described above.
  • For iPhone, open Features, YouTube Content Detection, confirm OK if requested and review Alerts.
  • Use Settings and Add Suspicious Words for the iPhone alert terms.

Why it matters: An alert about text in a title or comment is different from blocking a video. Moreover, alternative accounts and browsers can change coverage. Use YouTube’s own child account settings as well.

FamiSafe TikTok History

Supported editions can show selected viewing history. This is not full supervision of TikTok contact and messages.

  • Open TikTok History from Features, or its Details card.
  • Choose the date and review the available videos and time information.
  • Open the available detail or VIEW control to understand an entry.
  • If TikTok is unsuitable for the child, use App Rules and website filtering rather than relying on history alone.

Why it matters: The guide documents this for Android and Chromebook. However, do not assume the same iPhone coverage. Native privacy and message settings still matter.

FamiSafe Screen Viewer

Screenshots may reveal private conversations, school information and other people’s details.

  • Open Screen Viewer from Dashboard, Features or Phone Activity.
  • Choose Enable, or enable it through Settings.
  • Set Interval for timed captures, or use the instant capture control when needed.
  • Review Screenshots Gallery and its suspicious image filter.
  • On iPhone, ask your child to enable Screen Broadcast inside Fammy. Without that approval, capture does not work.

Why it matters: The guide lists Android 11 or later and iOS 14 or later for this feature, with Fammy 7.1.5 or later. Screenshots require an active screen. Therefore, review necessity and storage instead of treating capture as complete protection.

FamiSafe Android Calls and Messages

This sensitive feature uses an additional official tool called Fammy Plus.

  • Open Features, then Call & Messages or Calls & Messages.
  • Enable the feature and follow its official Fammy Plus download and authorisation instructions.
  • Check that the intended child device is connected and review available contact, call and message records.
  • Use the contact blacklist option only if needed, then test a harmless call with your child.

Why it matters: Fammy Plus can have a hidden launcher icon, although it remains managed through Fammy. Therefore, explain it openly and do not use it for secret monitoring. Never obtain the tool from an unofficial download site.

FamiSafe iPhone Calls and Messages

iPhone monitoring requires the connection and initial backup process presented by FamiSafe.

  • Open Features or Phone Activity, then Call & Messages.
  • Enable the feature and follow the product’s connection instructions for the child iPhone.
  • Complete the first backup as directed and wait for confirmation.
  • Review Calls and Texts or Texts where offered and check the timestamp of the latest records.

Why it matters: The public guide does not specify every current connection screen or sync prerequisite. Therefore, confirm its current computer and backup requirements before buying for this feature. It should not be described as unrestricted live monitoring. The current FAQ explicitly says Calls & Messages is temporarily unavailable on iOS 27, without a confirmed compatibility date.

FamiSafe Inappropriate Pictures

Photo alerts analyse supported images in the child device album. They are separate from web filtering.

  • Open Features, then Inappropriate Pictures.
  • On Android, select Switch to detect to enable scanning.
  • Review detected alerts. Open Setting to adjust the detection level where available.
  • The user guide mentions blur or deletion controls, but the current FAQ says remote deletion of pictures and other data is unsupported. Do not rely on remote deletion.

Why it matters: The provider says selected detected photos can be uploaded to the parent side. However, false detections occur, and private folders or unsupported content can escape scanning. Never forward sexual images of a child.

FamiSafe One Way Audio

This Android feature records sound around the child phone. It can also capture other people who have not agreed to recording.

  • Open Features or Phone Activity and choose One-Way Audio.
  • If there is a clear agreed need, start the recording and stop it as soon as that need ends.
  • Review stored files in My Recording and remove unnecessary recordings.
  • Show your child Account Info, where the provider says they can disable this feature.

Why it matters: Ambient recording is especially intrusive. Therefore, do not use it as routine secret listening or share recordings casually. The feature is Android only and is not an emergency response service.

FamiSafe Location and Geofences

Location follows the device and needs background permission and internet access.

  • Open Live Location to review the current map. Use Details for Location History and select the date.
  • Open Features, then Geofences, and choose Add a geofence or Add.
  • Name the place, search the address, choose the area size and select Save.
  • Review arrival and departure alerts under Notice, then remove places you no longer need.

Why it matters: The guide describes up to 30 days of history. However, a stale location or a phone left elsewhere does not establish where your child is. Frequent updates can use additional battery.

FamiSafe SOS Alert

SOS sends an alert to the parent. It does not automatically contact emergency services.

  • On the child device, open SOS Alert through Dashboard or Features.
  • Show your child the SOS control and its five second countdown. Cancel Signal stops an accidental alert during that period.
  • On the parent device, enable FamiSafe notifications. The parent SOS reception setting is on by default according to the guide.
  • When an alert arrives, open View Details to review Live Location or Location History, then contact your child.

Why it matters: Agree a response plan and practise only with everyone informed. Moreover, the phone, network and parent notifications can fail. Your child still needs a direct way to call for urgent help.

FamiSafe Driving Reports

Driving information may help a family discussion. It is not proof of who drove or why an event occurred.

  • Open Features, then Driving Report, and choose Enable.
  • Open its settings icon to review the speed threshold.
  • Use Driving Details for a recorded trip and Weekly Summary for the broader pattern.
  • Choose previous periods with the report arrows and discuss any concern when the driver is safely parked.

Why it matters: Phone movement, permissions and GPS accuracy affect results. Therefore, never interact with the report while driving or treat the app as a substitute for safe driving instruction.

FamiSafe iOS and Chromebook Restrictions

Additional restriction screens vary by edition and need separate checking.

  • On a supported iPhone setup, open Features, then iOS Restrictions.
  • Review the offered in app purchase and explicit Apple Books restrictions. Turn on the restriction you need and complete its setup prompts.
  • On Chromebook, open Features, then Content Manage, to review the app download restriction.
  • Test the chosen restriction and also review the child’s native Apple or Google purchase approval controls.

Why it matters: A switch name alone does not establish full store coverage. Furthermore, the Chromebook guide explicitly excludes SMS and camera restrictions. Do not promise those controls there.

FamiSafe Reports and AI Assistant

Reports show collected activity. The assistant offers generated responses to parents and, in some editions, children.

  • Open Report on Dashboard, or Features and Activity Report, and choose the relevant day.
  • Review app durations, sites and available details with your child.
  • If you choose to use the AI assistant icon, avoid entering private message contents, passwords or sensitive family details.
  • Check an AI response against reliable guidance and involve a trusted adult for a child’s concern.

Why it matters: AI can produce inaccurate or unsuitable advice. In addition, activity entries do not explain a child’s intent. The public guide does not establish a universal switch to disable every assistant, so confirm this if it affects your choice.

Remove Fammy and Protect the Parent PIN

Removal, billing cancellation and deleting the family account are separate actions.

  • In the parent app, open Account, then PIN set, to create or review the parent PIN. Keep it private.
  • For Android child removal, open Fammy, select Uninstall, enter the parent password or PIN and confirm OK.
  • To remove only Fammy Plus, open Fammy’s settings, Auxiliary Tool, authenticate and use its uninstall option.
  • For iPhone without upgraded computer supervision, follow the current profile removal instructions in Apple Settings, then delete Fammy and its web bookmark if present.
  • If FamiSafe Connect upgraded supervision, use that computer tool’s removal process rather than deleting only the app.
  • For a computer or Fire tablet, use the platform specific official uninstall instructions. Contact Wondershare support for account deletion or data requests after removing protection.

Why it matters: A forgotten PIN should use account recovery, not a factory reset. Moreover, uninstalling the parent app does not cancel the subscription or reliably remove child management.

Invite a FamiSafe Family Member

A sub account shares subscription access and the same full functionality, rather than a limited viewing role.

  • Open your Profile in the parent FamiSafe app.
  • Use the option to invite family members as sub-accounts and carefully check the intended trusted adult.
  • Review the access arrangements together. Ask support for the current revocation steps before inviting someone if you cannot find them.

Why it matters: The public FAQ confirms invitations but does not document every current invitation or removal screen. Therefore, do not treat a sub account as restricted access to one report.

Cancel FamiSafe Auto Renewal

Cancellation must use the purchasing account. Removing the app alone does not stop payments.

  • For a website order, sign in to the FamiSafe dashboard or parent app and open Setting, then My Subscription.
  • Choose Disable Auto Renew and retain confirmation. If that option fails, contact Wondershare support.
  • For an Apple purchase, open Apple Settings, your name and Subscriptions, then choose FamiSafe and Cancel Subscription.
  • For a Google purchase, use the original Google account and its Subscriptions screen to cancel FamiSafe.

Why it matters: Initial discounts do not necessarily continue at renewal. In addition, cancellation, child device removal and account deletion are separate tasks.

FamiSafe Controls and Documentation Limits

The current FAQ says FamiSafe cannot change network settings, block VPN use, detect mobile private browsing mode, monitor keystrokes or directly protect consoles, Android TV or Apple Watch. It also says native Apple system apps cannot be blocked. Moreover, newer marketing, the user guide and the FAQ disagree on some social coverage, individual YouTube blocking and remote photo deletion. These limits deserve confirmation before buying. Use the service’s native child accounts, purchase approvals and reporting controls alongside FamiSafe.

How to Use FamiSafe Safely

First, agree what you will monitor before switching it on. Then explain which limits apply and how your child can ask for help. Also agree when you will review the rules together. For example, schoolwork, accessibility tools and contact with trusted adults may need exceptions. Finally, test these together before relying on a block.

Essential Safety Advice and Current Concerns

However, controls cannot identify every scam, harmful conversation or unsafe person. For example, a permitted app can contain grooming, bullying, sexual pressure or misleading AI responses. Therefore, set privacy, contact and purchase controls inside each app as well. An alert is a reason to check calmly with your child. It is not proof that they have done something wrong.

If something worrying happens, help your child block and report the account through the relevant app. Also keep useful usernames, links and dates. However, do not forward sexual images of a child. In an emergency involving immediate danger in Ireland, call 112 or 999. For other concerns, seek appropriate safeguarding support. CODA education does not replace an emergency response.

Platform Support and Regional Differences

FamiSafe advertises Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Chromebook and Kindle Fire coverage, with different controls on each. Parent and child requirements are separate. Check the current download page for the exact model and operating system before purchase. The current social feature page is newer than parts of the general guide, which still names some discontinued services and older Apple layouts. Therefore, confirm current connection requirements and available controls in your version. Irish, UK and US store availability, currency and features can vary. A local app listing does not establish access to every advertised monitoring function.

Subscriptions, Renewal and Cancellation

The researched US page lists $9.99 monthly for five devices, $19.99 quarterly for eight and $59.99 annually for ten. The advertised $4.99 monthly equivalent is an annual charge, not a monthly plan. Local taxes may apply. A three day annual plan trial is advertised, while the free comparison includes demo only entries for several monitoring features. Do not confuse demonstration data with live protection. Plans renew automatically. Cancel website purchases through Wondershare’s support or account subscription process, and store purchases through the original Apple or Google account. Check renewal and refund terms before paying.

Safety Checklist

  • Confirm the correct child profile and every device they use.
  • Check permissions and protection status after software updates.
  • Test a harmless blocked site, an app limit and the bedtime rule together.
  • Keep trusted contact and accessibility tools available.
  • Review reports calmly and reduce unnecessary monitoring as independence grows.
  • Record the full subscription cost, renewal date and cancellation route.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does FamiSafe provide every feature on iPhone?

No. For example, ambient audio is Android only, iPhone screenshots require Screen Broadcast approval, and advanced controls can need a computer.

Does an AI alert prove that my child is in danger?

No. Review context calmly. Alerts can miss a problem or flag harmless content, so regular conversations remain essential.

Does uninstalling FamiSafe cancel payment?

No. Remove child management carefully and cancel through the original purchasing channel. Keep the cancellation confirmation.
