Doubao safety settings help parents understand the Chinese service known as 豆包. It supports questions, writing, voice and creative tools. The app can also include bots, shared creations and shopping features. However, these tools and their privacy choices differ from Dola’s international service.
For parents, begin with the age rules and the service your family actually uses. Then review the controls below with the eligible account holder. In addition, revisit permissions after an update. A missing option should never be treated as an active protection.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning
Doubao’s Chinese privacy policy requires users under 18 to read and agree with a parent or guardian’s supervision and guidance. Children under 14 need guardian consent before use. This policy describes consent requirements, rather than a universal age recommendation for families elsewhere. Read the current account guidance.
This guide refers to the official Chinese personal service at doubao.com. Chinese menu labels appear beside English explanations so families can identify the controls. Regional access and account requirements can differ. Do not bypass a regional restriction or treat guardian consent as permission to ignore another applicable rule. Review the relevant provider guidance.
Restrictions Available
Enable Minors Mode
The paid service terms identify a minors mode as a protection against unauthorised spending. Check the mode’s current restrictions on the device.
- Parent: Open 我的 (Me), 设置 (Settings) and 未成年人模式 (Minors mode).
- Next, follow the displayed setup instructions and read the restrictions before handing the device back.
- Finally, keep any exit credential private and check that the mode remains active. Also secure payment devices and payment passwords.
Why it matters: The training FAQ says data is not used for model improvement while this mode is on. However, do not assume it removes every content or contact risk.
Set Device Limits with Family Link
For an eligible supervised Android device, a parent can limit access to the app. This is a device control rather than an AI content filter.
- Parent: Open Family Link and select your child.
- Next, open Screen time, Time limits and App limits. Select Doubao.
- Finally, choose Set limit and save the agreed allowance, or use Block when access is unsuitable.
Why it matters: A device limit cannot make an ineligible account acceptable. Also review browser access and other devices, because an app limit does not cover every route.
Use Screen Time on iPhone or iPad
Family Sharing allows parents to manage a child’s Screen Time. Set this up with the child’s own Apple Account.
- Parent: Open iPhone Settings, then Screen Time and select the child under Family.
- Next, open App Limits, select Add Limit and select Doubao if installed. Set the allowance and add the limit.
- Finally, review Downtime and protect changes with a Screen Time passcode the child does not know.
Why it matters: Review exceptions and other ways to reach the service. However, time limits do not inspect generated answers or replace the provider’s age requirements.
Doubao Safety Settings
Some Doubao safety settings depend on the device, region or account. For example, an app control may not apply to a website or a separate product using the same model. Read confirmation messages carefully, and pause if the available option differs from the task you intend.
Doubao: Turn Off Every Relevant Training Category
Doubao provides separate choices for different content types. Turning off one category does not switch off the others.
- Open 设置 (Settings), 隐私与权限 (Privacy and permissions) and 帮助模型改进效果 (Help improve model performance).
- Next, review all switches for 文本对话 (Text conversations), 上传的图片、视频和文件 (Uploaded images, videos and files), 实时通话和语音输入的声音 (Call and voice input audio) and 屏幕共享和视频通话的画面 (Screen sharing and video call pictures).
- Finally, turn off each unwanted category. In the browser extension, use 设置 (Settings) and 账户设置 (Account settings) to reach the website controls.
Why it matters: The choices sync across the account and affect later content. However, related content deliberately sent as feedback or a report can still be used for model improvement.
Delete Memories and Disable Future Memory
Memory is separate from chat history. Switching it off leaves existing memories stored.
- Open 设置 (Settings) and 记忆 (Memory). While memory is on, inspect saved entries.
- Next, swipe left to delete one entry, or use the top right ··· menu to delete all memories.
- Finally, switch memory off if you do not want future replies to use or update it. Delete related chats separately.
Why it matters: Changes may take time to affect replies. In addition, leaving memory on after deletion allows new memories to form.
Doubao: Turn Off Personalised Recommendations
This changes recommendations rather than all processing of your conversations.
- Open 设置 (Settings) and 隐私与权限 (Privacy and permissions).
- Next, switch off 个性化内容推荐 (Personalised content recommendations).
Why it matters: General recommendations remain. Therefore, review what a young person opens rather than treating this switch as a content filter.
Revoke Unnecessary System Permissions
Doubao provides a central permission panel in addition to device controls.
- Open 我的 (Me), 设置 (Settings), 隐私与权限 (Privacy and permissions) and 系统权限 (System permissions).
- Next, review microphone, camera, photos, location and clipboard access. Turn off unnecessary permissions or reduce the scope in device settings.
- Finally, stop screen sharing and video sessions when finished. Check the visible capture indicator before opening private material.
Why it matters: Revocation does not undo earlier uploads. Also keep messages, school documents and other people’s faces out of any shared screen.
Doubao: Delete Chats and Make Creations Private
History and published creations have separate controls.
- Open the conversation list, select the individual conversation and use 删除 (Delete) for history you intend to remove.
- Next, open 我的 (Me), the personal page and 作品 (Creations). Set an unwanted public creation to 私密 (Private) or delete it.
- Finally, review 收藏 (Favourites) separately. Preserve evidence before deleting material connected to a safety concern.
Why it matters: A private creation can still have copies outside the app. However, deleting history does not erase memory automatically.
Disconnect Accounts and Protect Login
Doubao’s account notice describes phone verification and linked Douyin access.
- Open 设置 (Settings) and 豆包账号管理 (Doubao account management). Review the linked account information.
- Next, if you no longer need a Douyin link, unlink it through Doubao’s account management or the linked Douyin account’s settings.
- Finally, keep the phone number current and never share an SMS code. Protect any Apple Account used for sign in as well.
Why it matters: A login code can grant access to private history. In addition, removing a link does not delete information already used.
Doubao Safety Settings for Login Devices
The account notice documents a device list across services using the Doubao account. Review it after lending a device or noticing unexpected activity.
- Open 设置 (Settings), then 豆包账号管理 (Doubao account management).
- Next, select 登录设备管理 (Login device management). Review devices, products and recent activity.
- Finally, use the sign out action for an unfamiliar or shared device. Allow up to ten minutes for affected sign outs to take effect.
Why it matters: Signing out limits continued access from that device. However, it cannot erase copies already taken or secure a compromised phone number.
Doubao: Review Shopping and Renewal Charges
Wallet, shopping and subscriptions can involve different providers.
- Open 我的 (Me), 设置 (Settings) and 我的订单 (My orders) to review purchases.
- Next, for a subscription, identify the payment provider on the receipt. Use its renewal management route and follow the cancellation confirmation.
- Finally, for Apple billing, open iPhone Settings, your name and Subscriptions. Select the plan and cancel renewal. Ask feedback@mail.doubao.com about an unclear Doubao charge.
Why it matters: Do not assume app deletion stops billing. Therefore, keep payment credentials away from children and retain cancellation confirmation.
Review Paired Smart Devices
Smart earphones can extend voice access beyond the phone screen.
- Open 我的 (Me), 设置 (Settings) and 我的智能设备 (My smart devices). Review paired devices.
- Next, disconnect earphones you no longer use. On Android, review the app’s automatic startup permission if you do not need ongoing access.
- Finally, if lending supported earphones, review 设置 (Settings) and 分享给其他人使用 (Share for others to use) in the device panel.
Why it matters: Voice and notification features can expose private information to someone wearing the device. Also review the current notice before enabling spoken notification summaries.
Doubao: Delete the Doubao Account
Account deletion has its own procedure.
- Open 设置 (Settings), 豆包账号管理 (Doubao account management) and 删除账号 (Delete account).
- Next, read the account deletion agreement and check any linked services or charges before confirming.
- Finally, for information rights or an unsuccessful request, contact Dataprivacy@bytedance.com.
Why it matters: Deletion is separate from cancelling a subscription or removing another service’s account. Therefore, keep the provider’s confirmation and resolve outstanding billing.
Understand the Remaining Limits
The public documents verify the controls described here, but the current minors mode setup screens, exit procedure and exact content and time limits have not been tested. Do not assume a linked parent dashboard or access to private conversations. Check the device’s displayed restrictions with a Chinese reader if needed.
How to Use Doubao Safely
Discuss why a chatbot’s warmth is different from human friendship. Likewise, a Chinese interface or a helpful school answer says nothing about the accuracy of later replies. Check translations before changing a consequential setting, inspect media before sharing it and avoid connecting a family payment account for casual experimentation.
Review Doubao safety settings together with the eligible account holder. Then practise checking an answer against its original source. For example, verify a quotation on the actual page before using it in schoolwork. Keep passwords, addresses and private photographs out of prompts, even when a training choice is off.
Essential Safety Advice and Current Concerns
AI can make persuasive mistakes and produce harmful material. A friendly voice can also encourage someone to reveal private details or rely too heavily on a conversation. Therefore, explain that an assistant cannot replace a trusted adult, teacher or qualified professional.
For families, agree a simple response to an uncomfortable interaction. Stop the chat, keep relevant evidence and tell someone who can help. If another person uses generated images or messages to pressure a child, avoid blaming the child. Instead, protect their privacy and seek appropriate safeguarding support.
Send a Safety or Privacy Report
Doubao publishes a feedback route for conversations and account concerns.
- Open 设置 (Settings) and 帮助与反馈 (Help and feedback) in the app.
- Explain the concern and include only relevant evidence. Alternatively email feedback@mail.doubao.com for service feedback.
- Use Dataprivacy@bytedance.com for personal information requests.
Why it matters: Feedback can include content used for model improvement. However, do not delay getting human help while waiting for a platform reply.
CODA offers education and training rather than emergency monitoring. For an immediate safety concern, seek urgent help through the appropriate local service. In addition, return to an ordinary conversation with the young person after reporting. A platform reply alone cannot explain how the experience affected them.
Platform Support and Regional Differences
Families in Ireland, the UK and the USA should check the agreement attached to the actual service and account. An account age rule is separate from a privacy consent rule. Likewise, a parent’s permission does not override a provider’s stricter eligibility requirement. Do not bypass an unavailable regional service.
For privacy concerns, first use the provider’s published request route. Irish families can consult the Data Protection Commission’s parent guidance. UK readers can use ICO public guidance, while US readers can consult FTC children’s privacy guidance. These explain support and rights rather than certifying an app as safe.
Doubao Safety Settings Checklist
- First, confirm the current account age rule and regional availability.
- Next, review training, saved information and any relevant memory choices.
- Also check sharing, external connections and device permissions.
- Then protect sign in, recovery access and any payment method.
- Finally, practise reporting and agree a trusted person to contact.
Doubao Safety Settings FAQ
Is Doubao suitable for every child?
No. Start with the current age requirement and the individual child’s needs. For example, a service intended for adults does not become suitable because a parent shares a login. Controls reduce particular risks, but they cannot guarantee suitable answers.
Does deleting history remove everything?
No. History, memory, feedback, published material and copies shared elsewhere can require different actions. Therefore, check what each deletion message actually covers. Ask the provider about information you cannot manage directly.
Can device limits replace account rules?
No. Device limits control access on supported devices, while the service’s eligibility rules still apply. In addition, other devices and browsers can offer a different route. Review these together rather than relying on a single switch.
