Call of Duty: Warzone Safety Settings

Call of Duty Warzone artwork

Warzone safety settings help families review Activision’s console and PC battle royale shooter. Teams compete to survive, while seasonal rewards and social play encourage repeat sessions. Although downloading can cost nothing, the game contains mature content, player communication and optional purchases.

For parents, this guide separates game options from account security and device restrictions. However, settings cannot guarantee safe contact or make mature content appropriate for a younger child. Use the documented controls alongside regular conversations and an age appropriate choice of game.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning

This is a mature military shooter, with violence, strong language and online player contact. PEGI 18 applies in Europe, while North American editions use the relevant ESRB Mature 17+ classification. Therefore, these controls help adults assess exposure and prevent unsuitable access. They do not turn the game into a children’s title.

This guide covers console and PC Call of Duty: Warzone, rather than Warzone Mobile or Call of Duty: Mobile. Activision is reducing older console services ahead of a platform transition. Therefore, check the official platform notice before assuming an older console supports the same store or features.

An Activision login and a console or PC store account serve different purposes. Use accurate account details and follow any regional consent or verification requirement. Do not supply an adult birth date to bypass a restriction. An account check verifies particular information, not another player’s trustworthiness.

Device Restrictions for Warzone

First, use a separate child account within the adult’s family group. Protect the adult login and do not share its passcode. The CODA gaming platform guides explain family setup in more detail. These device protections do not create a child mode inside an adult game.

Warzone safety settings for PlayStation access

For a linked child account, the family manager can restrict mature games and social features. Use the correct child entry.

  • Open Settings, Family and Parental Controls, then Family Management on PS5.
  • Select the child and open Parental Controls. Set the Age level for games and apps appropriate to the child.
  • Set Communication and User-Generated Content to Restrict. Review Allowed Games for exceptions.
  • Have the child sign out and sign back in after a change made during play.

Why it matters: An exception can reopen access. Therefore, check both gameplay and communication permissions. On PS4, begin at Settings, Parental Controls/Family Management, Family Management instead.

Set the PlayStation spending limit

Next, keep the child’s PlayStation Store allowance separate from any virtual currency already owned.

  • On PS5, open Settings, Family and Parental Controls, Family Management and the child.
  • Choose Parental Controls, then Monthly Spending Limit. Set the limit to 0 to prevent new child account spending.

Why it matters: This affects the child’s PlayStation checkout. However, it does not reclaim existing currency or control another store. Protect the family manager’s purchasing account too.

Warzone safety settings for Xbox age restrictions

Similarly, an adult organiser can restrict access through the linked Xbox family account.

  • Open Xbox Family Settings on the adult’s phone and select the child’s account.
  • Open Settings, then Content restrictions. Under Apply age filters, choose the appropriate age.
  • Review previously granted game access and keep adult profiles protected.

Why it matters: A correct age filter can prevent access to mature games. Another unrestricted account or device can weaken that protection.

Require Xbox purchase approval

In addition, use organiser approval for purchases through the child’s Microsoft account.

  • Open Xbox Family Settings and select the child.
  • Open Spending and enable Ask to buy. Review available funds and purchase requests before approving anything.

Why it matters: Approval is a spending safeguard rather than a refund. Separately review other storefronts, existing balances and subscriptions owned by an adult.

Warzone safety settings for Steam access and time

For Steam users, add the eligible household account as a child in Steam Families. This does not mean every game supports library sharing.

  • Open Account Settings, Family Management and Manage in the adult Steam account.
  • Expand the child’s entry and enable Enable Parental controls.
  • Configure the available game permissions, Steam feature access and playtime limits. Check the saved choices with the child.

Why it matters: Steam controls govern Steam use. They do not establish equivalent protection in Battle.net, the Rockstar launcher or a separate console login.

Time limits on other devices

For other console or computer routes, use the relevant CODA platform guide to configure parent managed time controls. A reminder and an enforced stop do different jobs. In addition, arrange a stopping point before a match and verify that the child cannot simply switch to an adult profile. No universal in game parent bedtime lock is established here.

Warzone Safety Settings for Communication

Warzone safety settings for voice chat

First, disable voice if you do not want to hear or speak to other players. Review platform party chat separately.

  • Open the main menu, then Settings and Audio.
  • Select the Voice Chat tab and turn Voice Chat off.

Why it matters: This stops game voice participation. However, a separate console party or phone call can still carry audio.

Limit voice participants and opponent contact

If an eligible player uses voice, review the audience and the separate opponent features together.

  • Open Settings, Audio, then the Voice Chat tab.
  • Set Game Chat Voice to Party Only or Friends Only when appropriate.
  • Turn off Proximity Chat, Body Shield Chat and Last Words Voice Chat where the mode offers them.

Why it matters: Those opponent features require All Lobby to operate. Also, Friends & Chat Channels includes channel members beyond friends. A party member may still be a stranger.

Warzone safety settings for text chat

Similarly, text needs a separate choice from microphone or voice settings.

  • Open Settings, then Account & Network.
  • Find Text Chat and choose Disabled (Off).

Why it matters: This prevents game and chat channel text. My Chat Channels Only still permits channel messages, and other apps remain separate.

Mute a player during play

For immediate unwanted audio, use the session mute control.

  • Open the Scoreboard with View on Xbox, Touchpad on PlayStation or TAB on PC.
  • Highlight the player and choose Toggle Mute. In the lobby, select a player in Player List, press Select and choose Mute.

Why it matters: Muting also stops that player hearing you. However, it resets with a new play session. Use blocking for a persistent account restriction.

Warzone safety settings for blocking

Next, block the relevant account rather than repeatedly relying on temporary mute.

  • Open Social and find the player under Party & Friends or Recent.
  • Highlight the player, press Select and choose Block Player.
  • Review the list through Social, Recent and Blocked Players.

Why it matters: The block restricts communication and invitations and removes an Activision friend. It does not remove a separate platform friend or prevent another account approaching.

Warzone safety settings for reporting

For harassment or cheating, identify the right player and describe the relevant conduct.

  • Open Social, then Party & Friends or Recent. Highlight the player and press Select.
  • Choose Report Player, review the reasons and select those that apply.
  • Choose Send Report, or Report & Block Player if you also want to stop contact.

Why it matters: Reporting asks Activision to review conduct and does not guarantee an immediate response. Leave a distressing interaction without waiting for moderation.

Restrict changes to a chat channel

For a channel you own, review who can change its configuration.

  • Open the main menu and select Chat, shown by the headphones icon.
  • Select your channel and open its settings. Under Privacy Settings, choose Closed.

Why it matters: Closed limits settings changes to the channel owner. It is not proof that every participant is trusted or a universal private party lock.

Friends, parties and crossplay

Review both Activision friends and platform friends. Approve only people whose identity and conduct you understand, and do not accept invitations simply to receive a reward. Crossplay changes the available platforms rather than proving that the remaining players are safe. Exact current friend request filters and party admission labels need checking on the actual edition before use.

Warzone Safety Settings for Account Security

Activision now automatically enrols new accounts in email authentication. In addition, some free PC accounts need SMS verification. Check the official account security notice for the applicable requirement. These checks protect account access or support anti cheat measures, but they do not establish child suitability.

Warzone safety settings for authentication

Use a supported authenticator and keep recovery access separate from the gaming device.

  • Install a supported authenticator, then sign in to the official Activision account.
  • Open Privacy & Security and Two-Factor Authentication. Select Enable in the Authenticator App row.
  • If prompted, choose Send Code, retrieve the email code, enter it and choose Verify.
  • Add the account in the authenticator using its setup prompts. Return to Activision, enter the current authenticator code and account password, then choose Activate.
  • Store the supplied backup codes privately away from the authenticator device.

Why it matters: A second factor helps protect stolen passwords. Never share login or recovery codes with a player or supposed moderator.

Recover a forgotten password

For ordinary password loss, start with the official recovery page rather than a link sent by another player.

  • Open the Activision password recovery instructions and follow its recovery page link.
  • Enter the registered email and select SUBMIT.
  • Open the official email, select RESET YOUR PASSWORD, enter and confirm a unique password, then select SAVE.

Why it matters: Password recovery does not remove a lost second factor. Use a saved backup code or Activision Support for that separate problem.

Request account data or deletion

Before permanent deletion, consider whether you need a copy of your data or evidence of harmful contact.

  • Open the Activision Privacy Portal and select SUBMIT A NEW REQUEST.
  • Review the country and eligibility information. Proceed only if it applies to you.
  • Authenticate the relevant game account and choose the available access, download or deletion request. Review the consequences before confirming.

Why it matters: Deletion can remove progress across linked games and make earlier data reports unavailable. It does not automatically cancel another seller’s subscription.

Warzone Safety Settings for Spending and Privacy

For purchases, distinguish the game price, COD Points, Battle Pass, BlackCell and a platform membership. Read the actual checkout because a bundle and an ongoing subscription can have different terms. Existing virtual currency may remain spendable even after you block new card payments.

For a refund, start with the seller shown on the receipt. Use PlayStation refund guidance for PlayStation purchases and the relevant Microsoft, Steam or Battle.net purchase history for those stores. Select the disputed order and its support or refund option. Do not assume that consumed currency qualifies for a refund.

Similarly, check recurring memberships separately. On PS5, open Settings, Users and Accounts, Account, Payment and Subscriptions and Subscriptions. Choose the actual membership and its cancellation option. Removing the game does not stop billing. Follow the seller’s final confirmation and check the renewal status.

For privacy, avoid a real name, school or contact details in the display name. Voice moderation can involve recording and automated analysis, so do not treat game voice as a private conversation. The official voice moderation explanation describes the system and its limits.

How to Use Warzone Safely

For adults assessing this game, separate competitive enjoyment from suitability for children. Short sessions, reviewed teammates and clear spending agreements can reduce particular pressures. However, disabling chat leaves the military violence and mature themes in place. Prefer an age appropriate alternative for younger children.

For families, agree who can join, what spending requires approval and when play stops. Review the actual account together rather than relying on a screenshot from another device. In addition, practise leaving an uncomfortable interaction and asking for help without arguing with the other person.

Essential Safety Advice and Current Concerns

However, Warzone safety settings cannot establish another player’s age or intentions. Watch for secrecy, gifts with conditions, sexual comments, threats and pressure to move to a private app. A friendly voice, familiar avatar or shared interest does not prove that someone is trustworthy.

If someone pressures or threatens a child, listen calmly and stop contact. Preserve relevant nonsexual messages where safe. Do not download or forward sexual images of children. Reassure the child that asking for help will not get them into trouble, even if they broke a family rule.

In Ireland, contact An Garda Síochána about suspected grooming or exploitation. In an emergency, call 112 or 999. CODA guidance supports education and prevention, but an urgent safeguarding concern needs an appropriate immediate response.

Similarly, avoid currency generators, account sellers and offers that require a password or security code. Use official stores and support channels. Finally, protect sleep, schoolwork and offline relationships, and discuss distress or repeated difficulty stopping without blame.

Platform Support and Regional Differences

Use Activision Support for account, purchase delivery or verification problems. Select the exact game and platform, then the relevant issue. Do not weaken platform security or parental restrictions just because a troubleshooting article aims to restore unrestricted communication.

For parents in Ireland, the UK and the USA, device version, account age and local availability can change the controls offered. Follow the help for the actual edition. A regional age check does not establish a universal legal rule, and parental permission does not change a game’s content rating.

Warzone Safety Settings Checklist

  • First, check the game edition, age rating and actual account owner.
  • Next, review Warzone safety settings for contact, privacy and purchases.
  • In addition, check the separate console, computer or phone controls.
  • Practise leaving, blocking, reporting and seeking help together.
  • Finally, revisit the controls after an update or a change of device.

Warzone Safety Settings Questions

Do parental controls make this game suitable for every child?

No. Controls address specific risks and cannot remove every scene, message or social pressure. Therefore, start with the age rating and the individual child’s needs. Choose an age appropriate alternative when the game’s content or account requirements do not fit.

Does blocking protect every account and device?

No. Another person can use a different account or contact someone through a separate service. Similarly, a purchase restriction on one store does not control every payment website. Review each route the player actually uses and keep conversations alongside technical protections.
