ITVX streams ITV live channels, catch up television, films and boxsets. The free service carries advertising, while ITVX Premium adds paid benefits. Children may enjoy its kids profile, and teenagers may follow drama and entertainment. This guide explains ITVX safety settings for parents using the service in its supported territory.
ITVX streaming is restricted to the UK. It is not generally available for streaming in the Republic of Ireland, even when ITV channels are included in a television package. Therefore, check eligibility before registering or subscribing.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning
ITVX requires an account registrant to be 16 or over. Under 16s need parental permission, and the parent must register and pay where applicable. Separately, the UK Apple listing displays 16+. Neither measure makes every programme suitable for a child.
A kids profile provides children’s content and its own viewing list. The G guidance symbol can flag mature themes or another concern, such as flashing images. Review warnings before viewing.
ITVX may request identity evidence under its terms. However, a supplied birth date or parental PIN alone does not prove the current viewer’s age. Keep the account password private because it can reset the parental PIN.
ITVX Parental Controls and Restrictions
Create the ITVX kids profile
Profiles are supported on selected devices. A browser can use an existing profile but cannot create or manage one.
- In a supported app, select the main navigation profile icon.
- Choose + Kids profile, or Create profile when first offered.
- Give the profile a suitable name.
- Choose the offered Parental Controls PIN protection for the main profile and restricted content.
- Return to Who’s watching and select the kids profile.
Why it matters: As a result, this separates children’s viewing. In addition, a PIN helps prevent a simple switch to the main profile.
ITVX parental controls for main profile access
The current profile PIN protects main profile access and G rated content.
- Select the sidebar profile icon.
- On Who’s watching, select Edit profiles.
- Choose the main profile and switch Parental Controls to ON.
- Create a private PIN. Finish setup and select Done when editing is complete.
- Test main profile access and G labelled playback from the child’s device.
Why it matters: For this reason, pIN protection reduces adult access. Nevertheless, it cannot make every unlabelled programme suitable.
Check upgraded profile PIN coverage
Older guidance only PINs differ from the current profile PIN.
- Check that your app supports the current kids profile.
- Create the new Parental Controls PIN during setup rather than relying on an older PIN.
- Test it on each supported device, including browser viewing.
- Check the official supported profile device list.
Why it matters: Therefore, the new PIN works across ITV’s listed profile devices. Different or older apps still need separate checks.
Recover your ITVX parental controls PIN
The account password can reset the parental PIN.
- At the prompt, select Forgot your PIN?.
- Enter the account password and create the replacement PIN.
- Return to the kids profile and retest adult access.
Why it matters: In practice, keep the password, saved logins and recovery email with the adult. Otherwise, the child could reset the PIN.
ITVX Safety Settings and Why They Matter
ITVX privacy and advertising data permissions
Data permissions and cookie preferences are separate choices.
- Sign in, select the profile icon and open Data Permissions.
- Review the optional advertising and marketing choices, then confirm your preferences.
- On the website, use the footer’s Cookie Settings or Manage Cookies entry to review cookies separately.
- Repeat device choices after stored preferences are cleared.
Why it matters: As a result, refusing tracking reduces some data use. However, adverts can remain, and privacy choices do not establish advert suitability.
Reduce marketing email
Promotional email is separate from necessary account messages.
- Select the profile icon, then Manage Account and Communication Settings.
- Turn off unwanted email marketing and complete the displayed confirmation.
- Alternatively, select unsubscribe in a promotional email.
Why it matters: For this reason, fewer prompts support viewing routines. Account and billing messages may still arrive.
Turn off unwanted push notifications
Alerts can interrupt homework and sleep.
- On iPhone or iPad, open device Settings, Notifications and ITVX. Turn off Allow Notifications.
- On Android, open ITVX’s Menu, then Settings. Switch Push Notifications off.
Why it matters: Therefore, notification preferences reduce interruptions. They do not enforce a viewing time limit.
Review downloaded viewing
ITVX Premium downloads are available in supported mobile apps.
- Review programme warnings while still in the UK.
- Open My ITV or the app’s settings icon, then Downloads.
- Next, check saved titles and remove unwanted programmes using the displayed removal control.
- Test restricted playback on that device before a child uses it offline.
Why it matters: In practice, downloads normally last seven days, or 48 hours after playback begins. Nevertheless, inspect offline protection separately from the TV.
Cancel a website billed ITVX Premium plan
Removing the app does not cancel recurring payments.
- Sign in on ITV and select the profile icon.
- Open Manage Account and confirm the requested credentials.
- Under Your plan, select Cancel subscription.
- Complete cancellation and retain the confirmation and access end date.
Why it matters: As a result, use the actual billing provider. Apple, Amazon, Roku and Google subscriptions require that provider’s cancellation route.
Delete an unused kids profile
Deletion permanently removes its Continue Watching list.
- Select the profile icon, then Edit profiles on Who’s watching.
- Choose the kids profile and select Delete profile.
- Read the confirmation and select Delete profile again only when ready.
Why it matters: For this reason, this removes the child’s profile. However, the main profile and account remain.
Close an unused ITVX account
Account removal does not cancel third party subscriptions.
- Choose the main profile and select its top right icon.
- Open Manage account, Your details and Edit details.
- Select Remove my account.
- Enter the password and select Remove account only when ready.
- Check third party billing separately.
Why it matters: Therefore, closure and subscription cancellation are separate tasks. Use ITV privacy support for any additional data rights request.
ITVX Safety Settings for Family Viewing
Choose the kids profile before handing over the remote. Explain that the main profile belongs to the adult and the PIN remains private. Afterwards, test adult profile access from the child’s screen.
For teenagers, discuss edited relationships, reality television and advertising. If content is upsetting or confusing, stop viewing and talk without judgement. Also agree a finish time before starting a series.
Review live viewing, downloads and casting separately. Use suitable device controls when time limits must be enforced. Check available subtitles and other accessibility options for the specific programme.
ITVX Parental Controls, Safety Advice and Current Concerns
Advertising and optional tracking require their own review. Premium does not make every live broadcast, programme or advert suitable for children. A guidance label also cannot reflect every child’s individual needs.
ITVX warns that third party QR scanner apps can redirect TV activation to unrelated payment pages. Use the phone’s camera and official ITV pairing route. Leave unfamiliar payment pages without supplying card details.
Following an app reset or reinstall, test profiles and PINs again. Use ITV’s official support for programme concerns. If separate social contact involves threats or pressure, retain relevant details and seek appropriate safeguarding support.
ITVX Safety Settings and Regional Differences
ITVX live and on demand streaming requires UK access. Its terms define the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man as the territory, with individual rights and device differences. Republic of Ireland residents should not assume access.
Eligible Premium users can download supported programmes while in the UK and view them abroad offline within their licence period. This does not unlock streaming abroad. A Sky subscription does not remove ITVX regional restrictions.
ITVX Safety Settings Checklist
First, review these choices together. Then revisit them after an account or device change.
- Check viewing territory before subscribing.
- Create the kids profile on a supported app.
- Set the current profile PIN and test adult access.
- Protect the password and recovery email.
- Review data permissions and cookies separately.
- Reduce marketing emails and push notifications.
- Check downloads and casting on the actual device.
- Confirm billing provider and cancellation route.
ITVX Safety Settings Questions
Can I create a kids profile in a browser?
ITV says browsers can use an existing profile, but creating or managing it requires another supported device.
ITVX does my older guidance PIN still work?
ITV says the previous PIN no longer works on devices supporting the newer profile system. Create and test the current profile PIN.
Does Premium allow streaming from Ireland?
Premium does not remove the UK streaming restriction. Eligible downloads made in the UK are a separate travel feature.
