Hulu Safety Settings

Hulu is a US streaming service for series, films and, on eligible plans, live television. Children may enjoy cartoons and family programmes, while teenagers may follow popular drama and animation. This guide explains Hulu safety settings for parents using the standalone Hulu app.

Begin with a Kids profile, protect adult profiles and check every viewing device. Hulu programmes watched inside Disney+ use that app’s controls instead. For Ireland, Hulu branding inside Disney+ does not mean the standalone US service is available.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning

Hulu requires a new subscriber to be 18 or older. A child’s viewing profile is different from the adult’s subscription account. The US Apple app rating is 13+ with in app controls, which does not make every programme suitable for a teenager.

The catalogue includes adult animation, sexual themes, horror, strong language, advertising and live material. Choose titles individually rather than judging them by animation or a familiar character. Watch Party also includes group chat and is restricted to users aged 18 or older.

Hulu Safety Settings for Profiles and Playback

Create a Hulu Kids profile

Kids profiles restrict browsing and streaming to Hulu’s Kids hub.

• Open your profile on a supported Hulu player and select Add Profile or New Profile.
• Next, enter the profile name, turn Kids ON, then select Create Profile.
• Choose this profile for the child and test profile switching on their device.

Why it matters: A Kids catalogue narrows choices but does not assess your child’s individual needs. Pair it with PIN protection and family viewing.

Protect adult profiles with Hulu safety settings

The Hulu PIN applies when switching to any non Kids profile or creating another profile.

• On a computer or mobile browser, open Hulu’s profile icon, then Manage Profiles.
• Then, under Parental Controls, select Turn on PIN Protection.
• Enter the account password and follow the four digit PIN prompts.
• To change it, choose Manage PIN, enter the password and new PIN, then Save Changes. Forgotten PINs use Forgot your PIN? and the account password.

Why it matters: An adult password can reset or disable protection. Keep both private and check that the latest app actually requests the PIN.

Turn Hulu autoplay off on each device

Autoplay can start another episode or a related title. Turning it off supports a deliberate stopping point.

• On the website, start playback and open the Settings gear, then switch Autoplay off.
• After that, on mobile, tap the Account icon, choose Settings and switch Autoplay off.
• On supported television players, open the navigation bar by moving left or selecting back. Choose Settings and switch Autoplay off.

Why it matters: This is a playback choice rather than an enforced time limit. A child can still select another programme or change the setting.

Review downloads with Hulu safety settings

In addition, eligible Premium plans allow selected downloads on supported mobile devices. Hulu says its Downloads area can show content downloaded under different profiles.

• Open Downloads and review every stored title.
• In addition, to remove unwanted material, choose Edit, select titles, tap the Trash icon and confirm Delete.
• For mobile data protection on iOS, open Downloads, then its Settings icon. Turn Cellular Downloading off.
• On Android, open Account, Settings, then Downloads and turn Cellular Downloading off.

Why it matters: A profile filter is not enough evidence that every offline file is appropriate. Downloads remain device specific, and Hulu disables autoplay during downloaded playback.

Keep adult Watch Party chat separate

Hulu Watch Party synchronises playback and adds group chat. Its official eligibility is 18 or older.

• Keep children on their correctly configured profile.
• Next, do not let a child use an adult account to select the Watch Party icon or an invitation link.
• Review FaceTime or Messages access separately if the family uses SharePlay.
• Stop the session if a message causes concern and use official support or the communication app’s reporting tools.

Why it matters: A film rating does not assess the people in a group chat. External calls and messages need their own protections.

Review profile changes and deletion

An adult can edit a profile’s Kids switch or remove an unused profile. These actions affect viewing choices and history.

• On Hulu’s website, hover over your name and choose Manage Profiles.
• Next, select the profile’s pencil icon, check that Kids remains on for a child, then choose Save Changes.
• For an unused secondary profile, select it and choose Delete Profile in Edit Profile. Confirm only when ready.

Why it matters: Deleting a profile is permanent and differs from deleting the account. The primary profile cannot be deleted. In addition, Kids profiles and profiles for viewers under 18 cannot transfer to another subscription. Keep the adult password private because it can change protections.

Hulu Safety Settings for Accounts and Privacy

Secure passwords with Hulu safety settings

Hulu shares MyDisney login details with linked Disney services.

• On Hulu’s web Account page, find Your Account and select Change Password.
• Then, check the verification email and enter its six digit code.
• Enter Current Password, New Password and confirmation, then choose Save Changes.
• If you cannot sign in, use Hulu’s official Forgot Password tool and follow the emailed reset link.

Why it matters: The change affects linked MyDisney access. Secure the email account too and never share passcodes with someone offering free streaming.

Remove unfamiliar devices and review login alerts

Hulu records activated devices and sends activation emails identifying device, location and time.

• Open the web Account page and find Your Account.
• After that, under Watch Hulu on Your Devices, select Manage Devices.
• Select Remove beside an old or unfamiliar device.
• For wider linked access, sign in at MyDisney, select Access and Security, then Log out of everywhere.

Why it matters: MyDisney logout affects linked services and can take up to four hours for other devices. Also change a compromised password.

Recognise Hulu verification requests

For example, Hulu sends email codes or links for certain account changes and purchases. This is not a documented switch guaranteeing a second factor at every login.

• Start account changes yourself on the official site.
• In addition, enter a verification code only in the flow you requested. Codes expire after five minutes.
• Check junk mail if the message is missing, or contact official support if you cannot access the registered email.

Why it matters: An unsolicited code request can be part of account theft. Email control remains central to recovery and verification.

Review and clear viewing history

Continue Watching shows recent viewing. Removal resets progress but is different from a data erasure request.

• On the website, open Continue Watching, hover over a title, choose its X icon and select Done.
• Next, on mobile, choose Continue Watching, View All, the title’s three dots, then Remove from Watch History and confirm.
• On television, open the title’s details, select Manage Movie or Manage Series, then Remove from Watch History.
• For all profiles, open web Account, Privacy and Settings, then Your U.S Privacy Rights. Under Manage Activity, choose Watch History and Clear Selected.

Why it matters: History is useful for a conversation, not proof of deliberate viewing. A removed title may still appear in search or the live guide.

Manage Hulu privacy settings for advertising, email and measurement

Privacy controls manage some data uses rather than filtering programmes.

• Open Hulu’s web Account page. Under Privacy and Settings, choose Manage Email Notifications and review unwanted marketing.
• Then, select Manage Nielsen Measurement on the account page to review eligible measurement choices.
• Use Your Privacy Choices or the applicable US privacy rights link for local advertising and data options.

Why it matters: Choices can differ by location and device. Opting out of some targeting does not remove every advertisement or stop all necessary processing.

Request Hulu personal data or correction

Hulu’s US privacy page provides account data requests for eligible users. A history reset is a different action.

• Open web Account, Privacy and Settings, then Your US State Privacy Rights.
• Under Right to Know, select Request Report and complete the email verification. Download the report from the provided privacy portal.
• For deletion, cancel relevant subscriptions first. Under Right to Delete, choose Start Deletion and complete the verification prompts.
• For corrections you cannot make in account settings, use the privacy contact listed on that official page.
• For eligible advertising opt outs, use Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information in the footer or app settings.

Why it matters: Eligibility and legal exceptions apply. A deletion request can remove access and cannot be undone, while advertising choices do not stop every form of processing.

Review Hulu safety settings for billing and account deletion

Cancellation stops the relevant subscription. Account deletion is a separate action and does not delete every linked Disney service.

• For Hulu billing, open web Account, then choose Cancel under Your Subscription.
• If offered a pause, choose Continue to Cancel, then Cancel Subscription. Keep confirmation.
• Check separate bundles, add ons and billing providers. Cancel their active subscriptions through the appropriate provider.
• After cancellation, open Account, Privacy and Settings, then Delete Account. Read the details, choose Continue, verify the emailed code, choose Continue and finally Delete if ready.

Why it matters: Deleting access before cancelling can leave charges running. Live TV trial access can end immediately on cancellation, and separate subscriptions may continue.

Understand the automatic restart after a pause

Alternatively, eligible Hulu subscriptions can pause for a chosen period. A pause differs from cancellation.

• Open web Account, then Your Subscription.
• Choose Pause beside Pause Your Subscription. Set the duration and select Submit.
• Record the automatic restart date. If you want to stop future renewal, cancel rather than relying on a pause.

Why it matters: The pause begins with the next billing cycle and can last up to 12 weeks. Billing restarts automatically. Annual plans and several third party or promotional subscriptions are ineligible.

How to Use Hulu Safety Settings with Your Family

Hulu safety settings work best alongside family conversations. For parents, choose a programme together and agree a finishing time. Device time controls can support that agreement, but Hulu autoplay controls do not enforce a bedtime. Meanwhile, a shared television lets a child ask questions when something feels confusing.

Use Dislike to improve suggestions where available, while recognising that it is not a title block. For accessible viewing on the website, open the player’s Settings and Subtitles. Review captions and audio description where offered.

Essential Safety Advice and Current Concerns

Treat free subscription messages, fake billing alerts and requests for codes cautiously. Open Hulu independently rather than following a stranger’s payment link. Therefore, keep purchases and plan changes with the adult.

Therefore, if a child sees upsetting material, stop playback and listen calmly. Explain that accidental exposure is something they can tell you about. Report the title or account issue through official Hulu support, and use CODA’s support resources for wider safeguarding concerns.

Platform Support and Regional Differences

Standalone Hulu is for US customers. Hulu content inside Irish Disney+ follows Disney+ profiles and parental settings, so use the existing CODA Disney+ guide. A Hulu Kids profile does not automatically establish a Disney+ child profile.

Hulu’s current linking help says Kids profiles and profiles under 18 do not link to Disney+. Older players may not support current PIN behaviour. Update the app and test protection on every actual screen.

Does the Hulu PIN also protect Disney+?

Each app has its own profile protections. Shared login details do not mean shared parental controls.

Why it matters: Configure the child’s Disney+ profile separately.

Does Dislike block a programme?

Dislike changes suggestions. A title can still be found elsewhere.

Why it matters: Use appropriate profiles and supervision rather than treating recommendations as restrictions.
