Hayu Safety Settings

Hayu logo for the safety settings guide

Hayu safety settings help adults protect an account that contains reality television and mature programmes. Hayu is NBCUniversal’s subscription streaming service for reality series, celebrity stories, dating shows and true crime. This guide helps parents understand the PIN, account security and billing before using Hayu on a shared screen.

Teenagers may recognise programmes through friends or social media clips. However, recognition does not make a series suitable for them. Hayu describes itself as an adult service and warns that its content is unsuitable for children. Therefore, keep access under adult control rather than treating it as a children’s viewing app.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning

Hayu’s official support describes the service as 18+. Separately, its Irish Apple listing has an 18+ app rating. Individual programmes have their own classifications, so these measures answer different questions. A lower programme rating does not establish permission for a child to hold an account.

The catalogue can include sexual content, strong language, alcohol, drugs and upsetting crime stories. In addition, edited relationships and conflict can give a misleading picture of everyday life. A PIN reduces some access but does not make Hayu appropriate for children. Keep your login and recovery email private.

Hayu Parental Controls and Restrictions

Enable Hayu PIN protection for mature content

PIN Management adds a four digit code for stronger content. However, Hayu says the app will not ask again for four hours after the initial unlock. This is a significant limit on a shared device.

  • Sign in to your adult owned Hayu account.
  • Open My Account, then Settings.
  • Turn on PIN Management and follow the prompts to create a private four digit PIN.
  • Keep the PIN away from children and check the protection on every device you use.
  • After adult viewing, secure the device rather than handing it to a child during the four hour unlocked period.

Why it matters: An adult unlock can leave mature viewing available for hours. Therefore, supervise shared screens and do not use the PIN as a protected children’s profile.

Reset a forgotten Hayu PIN

An adult can recover the PIN through the account login. As a result, anyone who knows the password may weaken the restriction.

  • Sign in and open My Account.
  • Choose Settings, then PIN management.
  • Confirm your login again when asked, then follow the PIN reset prompts.
  • Check that PIN Management remains on after the change.

Why it matters: Protecting the account password and recovery email matters as much as choosing a PIN. Avoid sharing either with a young viewer.

Keep children away from the adult app

This is practical device protection. The available Hayu documentation does not establish a protected child profile, individual title block or daily viewing allowance.

  • Remove the Hayu app from a device intended for a young child.
  • Use that device’s family controls to restrict app installation and access to the Hayu website.
  • Keep the adult device locked and do not leave an active Hayu session open on a shared television.
  • Test whether the child can reinstall the app, open a browser or reach another signed in screen.

Why it matters: A content PIN alone does not cover every route to the service. For detailed device setup, follow the current instructions from Apple or Google linked below.

Hayu Safety Settings and Why They Matter

Protect the Hayu account password

Use a unique password and secure the email account used for recovery. The official password change path is separate from PIN Management.

  • Sign in and select My account.
  • Choose Change password.
  • Follow the password prompts and use a unique password stored securely.
  • If you cannot sign in, use the recovery option on the official Hayu sign in page.
  • Contact Hayu support about unfamiliar access and ask how to remove existing sessions.

Why it matters: A PIN does not protect billing or account changes. In addition, changing a password should not be assumed to end every existing session unless Hayu confirms it.

Review Hayu privacy and cookie choices

The NBCUniversal privacy notice explains data use and rights. Hayu also exposes Cookie Preferences. These choices are separate from parental restrictions.

  • Open the Hayu website and select Cookie Preferences where available.
  • Review optional cookie categories and save your preferred choices using the controls shown.
  • Read the linked Privacy Policy before providing extra personal information.
  • Use the rights request routes in the privacy notice for access or deletion questions.

Why it matters: Viewing activity and device information may be used beyond programme delivery. However, refusing optional cookies does not stop all necessary processing or delete an account.

Check who bills the Hayu subscription

Direct subscriptions and partner subscriptions have different cancellation routes. Therefore, begin with the receipt instead of assuming the app controls every payment.

  • Read your latest Hayu receipt and identify the provider that charges you.
  • For direct billing, sign in to Hayu, open My Account and Payment Details, then use the cancellation option shown.
  • For an Apple or Google subscription, open that store’s subscriptions management and select Hayu to review or cancel it.
  • For a TV or streaming partner, use that provider’s subscription controls.
  • Complete the confirmation prompts and keep the cancellation confirmation and final access date.

Why it matters: Deleting an app is not cancellation. A trial or recurring subscription can continue to charge unless the correct billing provider confirms that it has stopped.

Hayu Safety Settings for Family Viewing

For adults, choose a programme deliberately and read its classification before starting. In Europe, Hayu lists classifications including PG, 12, 15 and 18. Check the rating on the episode’s playback bar, because one series name does not explain every scene.

For shared viewing, stop playback before leaving the room and secure the screen afterwards. Similarly, check any downloaded episodes before lending a device. Downloads can remain available without a connection, so disconnecting WiFi should not be treated as protection.

Agree an ending point before watching several episodes. Then pause to decide whether to continue. A device timer or bedtime routine is practical family advice rather than a verified Hayu time limit.

Parental Controls, Safety Advice and Current Concerns

Reality television can present edited conflict, sexual relationships and luxury spending as normal or desirable. If a teenager has seen a clip elsewhere, talk about editing, consent, respectful relationships and advertising. However, the availability of a clip on social media does not change Hayu’s adult service warning.

Use official apps and support pages. Unexpected messages promising a free account, payment refund or celebrity contact may be scams. Never share a password, PIN or payment details with a stranger. If contact becomes threatening or sexual on another platform, save suitable evidence and use that platform’s blocking and reporting controls.

For Irish families, Useful Links and Supports provides routes to appropriate help. If a child seems distressed, listen calmly and reassure them they can tell you. Contact emergency services on 112 or 999 when someone faces immediate danger. CODA education does not replace emergency or safeguarding support.

Platform Support and Regional Differences

Hayu is available in Ireland, although programme rights and subscription arrangements can vary by country. Its current Irish Apple listing requires iOS, iPadOS and tvOS 18.0 or later. For other devices, use the official compatibility information and update the app before testing protection.

A Hayu subscription obtained through NOW, Prime Video or another partner may use that provider’s interface and restrictions. Therefore, check the provider you actually watch through. The direct Hayu PIN instructions should not be assumed to control a partner’s player.

Public documentation does not settle every current TV confirmation button, offline PIN behaviour or session removal option. If a menu differs, stop and use Hayu support. Do not assume an undocumented setting is absent.

Hayu Safety Settings Checklist

Review these choices together before independent viewing. Then revisit them after a device or account change.

  • Treat Hayu as an adult service and keep child devices away from it.
  • Enable PIN Management and keep the PIN private.
  • Account for the four hour period after unlocking stronger content.
  • Secure the password, recovery email and shared screens.
  • Review privacy choices and saved downloads.
  • Identify the billing provider and keep cancellation records.
  • Recheck protection after an app, device or subscription change.

Hayu Safety Settings Questions

Does the Hayu PIN create a children’s profile?

No. The documented PIN restricts stronger content, but Hayu still warns that the service is unsuitable for children. It also allows a four hour period after the initial unlock.

Can I cancel by deleting Hayu?

Deleting the app does not establish cancellation. Check your receipt and complete cancellation with the provider that bills you.

Does a PG programme mean Hayu is a children’s service?

No. Programme classifications describe particular content. They do not override the adult service warning or establish a child’s account eligibility.
