ESPN Safety Settings

ESPN logo for this safety settings guide

ESPN combines sports scores, news, highlights and streaming. Its US Select and Unlimited plans offer different sports catalogues. Teenagers may follow teams, major events or sports documentaries. This guide explains ESPN safety settings for parents considering streaming and account access.

First, check the app and plan your family uses. ESPN content inside Disney+ follows that app’s controls, while the standalone ESPN app needs a separate review. An ESPN app listing in Ireland does not establish access to every US subscription or event.

Age Rating and Child Safety Warning

ESPN’s US bundle help requires subscribers to be 18 or older, or the local age of majority, and resident in an eligible US territory. This subscription rule is different from the US Apple app rating of 13+. A child enjoying sports does not make them eligible to own the adult’s payment account.

Live matches can include injuries, aggressive behaviour and distressing reactions. Other programmes may contain mature themes or language. Review each event and its advertising rather than assuming that a sports catalogue is suitable for every child.

ESPN Safety Settings for Content and Viewing

ESPN safety settings for standalone access

A Disney+ profile PIN does not establish a lock on the standalone ESPN app.

  • Identify whether viewing happens in ESPN, Disney+ or another subscribed player.
  • Next, on the actual device, inspect the available viewing protections with an adult.
  • Keep the adult password and purchase approval private.
  • If that player has no suitable verified child restriction, choose supervised viewing or restrict access through the device.

Why it matters: For parents, app access controls, event suitability and payment approval are separate protections. A shared login does not make every app’s settings identical.

Restrict unrated ESPN content inside Disney+

Eligible Disney+ profiles have a separate control for titles without ratings, including some live sport.

  • In the Disney+ app or supported browser, select Edit Profiles and choose the child’s profile.
  • Then, open its Parental Controls.
  • Review Allow titles without ratings like live sports, news, and more and disable access where offered for that profile.
  • Review the content rating and adult profile PINs using the existing CODA Disney+ guide.
  • Test what the child can open on the device they use.

Why it matters: However, rated ESPN content follows the Disney+ profile’s rating. Unrated live content has a separate decision and the setting can be enabled by default outside Junior Mode. This does not configure standalone ESPN.

Protect subscriptions and extra purchases

Different plans and bundles provide different access. A prompt to subscribe or upgrade is a payment decision for the adult.

  • Check the exact Select or Unlimited entitlement and actual billing provider.
  • After that, review the price and included event before accepting any purchase or upgrade.
  • Protect the device’s payment approval and keep adult account credentials private.
  • Stop and check official support if a paid event unexpectedly asks you to subscribe again.

Why it matters: However, a logo or event tile does not guarantee access through the current plan. Existing bundles and older third party subscriptions may need separate management.

ESPN Safety Settings for Account Security and Privacy

Update the adult’s account email

ESPN verifies email changes. Keep recovery details under the adult’s control.

  • On ESPN’s website, open the Account icon and choose ESPN Profile.
  • In addition, under Email, select Edit.
  • Check the account passcode email and enter the verification code.
  • Enter the new email address and select Save.

Why it matters: As a result, recovery access can affect linked Disney experiences. Never send the emailed code to a person offering tickets or discounted access.

ESPN safety settings for passwords and recovery

Use a password unique to the linked MyDisney identity.

  • For a known password, open the website’s Account icon. Under Change Password, enter the current and new passwords, then select Done.
  • Next, for recovery, open Profile, Log In, then Need help signing in?.
  • Enter the registered email, retrieve the passcode and choose Continue.
  • Choose Reset Password, enter the new password, select Done, then Save.

Why it matters: However, ESPN’s recovery article also covers other ESPN experiences. Check the flow you actually use and secure the recovery email rather than relying on a viewing restriction alone.

ESPN privacy settings and linked access

MyDisney provides linked account security, while Disney’s Privacy Center provides location dependent data choices.

  • Sign in to MyDisney and review Access and Security.
  • Then, for unwanted linked access, select Log out of everywhere, understanding that other Disney experiences are affected.
  • Open the official Privacy Policy and use its Data Subject Rights Portal link for applicable data requests.
  • Review Your Privacy Choices and email preferences through the official privacy routes.

Why it matters: However, logout can take time on other devices. Data requests can require verification, and advertising choices are different from content filters or complete data erasure.

ESPN safety settings for subscription cancellation

Cancelling a subscription stops its renewal but does not delete the ESPN account.

  • Sign in to ESPN through a computer or mobile browser and open the Profile picture.
  • After that, under Manage My Account, select Account, then Manage Subscription.
  • Under Plans & Billing, open the subscription and select the plan to cancel.
  • Choose Cancel, confirm and retain the access end date.
  • For third party billing, cancel through that provider. Review bundles separately.

Why it matters: However, ESPN says access continues to the current billing period’s end and it does not offer credits for partly used periods. Uninstalling the app does not stop charges.

Delete the ESPN account after resolving billing

ESPN account deletion is separate from subscription cancellation and from deleting the wider MyDisney identity.

  • Cancel every relevant ESPN subscription first.
  • In addition, sign in through a browser, open Profile, then Account.
  • Select Manage with MyDisney and scroll to Delete Account.
  • Read the account scope, choose Delete Account, then Yes, Delete my Account only if ready.

Why it matters: However, the official ESPN article warns that deleting without cancelling can leave charges running. It describes effects on other Disney experiences with exceptions for Disney+, Hulu and MyDisney identity, so read the actual confirmation carefully.

Report a security or viewing concern

Official ESPN support can investigate account and playback issues. Other sports communities need their own controls.

  • Stop unsuitable playback and note the event, programme, device and time.
  • Next, in the ESPN app, open Settings, then Contact Support.
  • Describe the problem without including passwords or passcodes.
  • For threatening contact in another app, report there and use CODA’s support resources when needed.

Why it matters: However, a support request cannot guarantee immediate removal or protect conversations happening elsewhere.

Using ESPN Safety Settings with Your Family

ESPN safety settings work best alongside family conversations. First, plan the event and finishing time before starting. Replays can sometimes support a calmer viewing time, but availability depends on rights and the subscription. Use device time restrictions if helpful and explain that they do not edit the footage.

Keep the app updated through a trusted store and review notification permissions on the device. Sports scores and alerts can draw attention back to viewing, so agree when the phone can be put away.

Essential Safety Advice and Current Concerns

Watch for unofficial streaming links, fake ticket offers and messages asking for an account code. Open the official service yourself before paying. A streaming subscription does not automatically include stadium tickets or every event.

If a child is upset by an injury, stop playback and listen. Meanwhile, fan conversations, fantasy games and other linked experiences are different activities from streaming. Assess them separately rather than assuming this viewing guide covers every ESPN product.

Platform Support and Regional Differences

ESPN’s current US subscriptions use Select and Unlimited. Its US bundle eligibility does not prove the same plans are sold in Ireland. App availability, scores, news and streaming rights are different questions.

In Ireland, Disney+ help describes selected ESPN content inside its app. Its profile settings apply there, including the separate choice for unrated live content. However, this does not grant access to every standalone US plan. Live rights, availability and entitlement vary by country and provider. For parents, do not rely on a child profile or timer in one app to protect another. Instead, use the actual player’s controls, device restrictions and shared viewing.

ESPN Safety Settings Checklist

  • Identify the actual viewing app, territory and plan.
  • Keep ownership, passcodes and purchases with the adult.
  • Review unrated live content separately in Disney+.
  • Secure recovery information and remove unwanted linked access.
  • Cancel subscriptions before closing the relevant account.

Questions about ESPN Safety Settings

Do Disney+ settings protect the ESPN app?

Disney+ settings apply to content viewed there. The standalone app has its own access arrangements.

Why it matters: Test each app the child can open.

Does deleting ESPN stop billing?
