The greatest mistake we have made is thinking those who read, or follow our posts, have all the up to date knowledge, or experiences we have. Countless people just created a Social Media account today. Many of whom are new parents, teens, or kids, who literally know nothing about the online world. Each one of those individuals are vulnerable. They may actually be searching for the type of online content and information we afford to protect themselves personally, their family members, or their young children.Over the last few years, we have shared a huge amount of content, some of which is more important now, than it was when we shared it first. We all now exist in an economy that feeds mercisly and without consciousness on attention. The constant glow of a screen affording an ever present distraction from life itself. Kid are mirroring this behaviour and it is taking them to some really dark places. Please monitor both ypur own #screentime and that of your children. If it's excessive try begin to reign it in.Big tech monetise and make billions from the attention you afford their platforms. Your child could possibly be the greatest benefactors if you create more time for one on one with you free from screens. If they have you to themselves there are enormous benifits for them. Recent studies now show children spending up to five hours s day on digital devices. Device ownership has also increased, especially during lockdown. With more access to devices combined with what is far beyond excessive use, the data relating to the number of children experiences of online harm is now far beyond anything seen before.Parents feel pressured to afford access to devices, especially smartphones. They feel their child will be targeted or bullied without one. My own children, 12, 11 and 9 do not have their own devices or social media account of any type. Believe it or not, this has not impeded their contentment or digital skills in any way. I couldn't watch a child spend five hours on a device. We don't get back this time when children grow up. They are small for such a short period of time, affording access like that robs parents and children of each other's company. No comparison can be made between affording a device and affording time to a child. I promise you, your children will eventually thank you for the latter.#digitalparenting #excessivescreentime ...
